I always assume there is some overlap between WIRE’s readership and my own, but if you’re not a subscriber, you should know that in this month’s issue (with personal favorite Christian Marclay) has a short, but very nice, column on yours truly and the site. I’m thrilled by how the story turned out, because I do think it captured some of the site’s mission, and it also pointed out something that makes the site unique (the format) while getting at some of the underlying philosophy of me and, without putting words in their mouths, other contributors. Given the space constraints, I understand why there wasn’t as much said about the many, many contributors the site has had over the years. As such, I want to list a tiny bit here.

The site was founded with a longtime online friend of mine, Aaron, who has taken a hiatus, more or less, the last few years. He was back in the fold, briefly, with a recently upped mix of country tracks which I posted here. He is also a musician, and he came up with the site’s name. Other early contributors include Danny, who is located in Bucharest and does great work there, including putting on listening parties/shows with Sambata Sonora, and DJ sets at Control Club (also in Bucharest).

A lot of people have done one thing or another for KiC while making music and spreading the word about some of the things we’ve covered. Alex, as I’ve noted, makes mixes and actively records some good stuff. He’s a great guy, as is Kyle (aka Fuck, The Retarded Girl), who in a flurry of posts (here, here, here, etc.) essentially saved this site from the scrap heap.

There are so many people I want to thank, from Emmy, Stephen, Eleysia and down the line. I’ve left out a lot of names, but I wanted to hit a last few here. Afonso has been an inspiration, keeping the site going and giving me ideas for years. He’s done a lot to build up our avant-classical tags, both here and at the Blogger archive. I hope that he can get back to sending me stuff, but regardless of whether or not that happens, I think we’ll get other things published in the future and hopefully add some value to the discussion about new compositions. Equally important to me is Francesco, who has always been so positive, supportive, patient and helpful in pointing out new music and new ideas. Any recognition of the site is also recognition of his support.

The last person in this very, very incomplete list I wanted to point out is Matt. Matt has been the single most important person in keeping the site going for over a year and a half now, even above my own contributions. Matt has published so much writing, and that has been great, but Matt has also been one of the key people for me in the last year in moving me towards the music I’m into now. He’s been involved in radio, done a lot of good stuff at Tiny Mix Tapes (especially in Eureka!), and he’s going to be putting on a show shortly. I truly appreciate his contributions to this site, and I consider him to be an indispensable part of my music obsession. He’s also an extremely nice guy. So, while I love what WIRE did for the site, I felt it was imperative I said a few thank you’s to the people not mentioned by name. There are many more than these, so if you ever dig around the site, you can bet that more often than not, someone other than “Paul Banks” was a big part.
